Our business is built on the premise that customers should not be a 'one time only' occurrence, and a company reputation still means something!

We use only ADVANCE™ carpet cleaning equipment, ensuring our reputation for quality cleaning at a reasonable price. With the combination of ADVANCE™ commercial cleaning machines and our highly trained work force, CRSI has developed a reputation for quality and customer satisfaction. To further enhance our service, CRSI offers our 100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION GUARANTEE.

We have put together a list of answers to our most commonly asked questions:

Q. What type of method do you use to clean carpets?

A. We use 'water extraction'. This means that our machine's will apply a water (and cleaning solution) spray directly onto your carpet. With the 'AquaClean' (pictured above) your carpets get a great cleaning in record time! The AquaClean is a one pass carpet solution. It applies the solution, scrubs the fibers and extracts the dirty water all in one pass. These are the same machines the local schools, clinics and hospitals use! We can use both 'hot' and 'cold' water, but we often use hot. Our solutions are not temperature sensitive, so if 'hot' water is unavailable, we still can do a great job on your carpets.

Q. How and why is 'water extraction' cleaning better than the other methods offered by other companies?

A. Water extraction does the best job of getting the 'deep down' dirt. While other methods such as 'dry foam', 'bonnet cleaning', 'rotary shampoo' or 'powder' do a reasonable job of cleaning the surface fibers, they do not match the water extraction method of cleaning deep down. Since glass is made from sand, the dirt left deep within the carpet acts like tiny glass particles and cuts carpet fibers over a period of time resulting in premature carpet wear and ultimately carpet replacement.

Q. Will ‘wet cleaning’ my carpets damage them?

A. 20 years ago, that would be true. The old time water extraction machines did a very poor job of cleaning and getting the water back up from the carpets. With today’s modern equipment, water extraction is by far the best method of getting a deep cleaning, and today’s carpets were designed to be wet cleaned.

Q. I hear that if I have my carpets cleaned by water extraction, they won’t be dry for a long time.

A. CRSI uses the top of the line in water extraction units made by ‘Advance’. These machines will recover 80%-90% of the water put down, which in turn removes the dirt and makes for a very accept- able drying time. On average, carpets cleaned by us are dry within a few hours after cleaning. Humidity and the application of stain guard will affect drying time.

Q. Is ‘water extraction’ better than ‘dry foam’ or ‘chemical carbonation’ methods I hear about?

A. Yes, water extraction removes more dirt from deep down than the other methods do. The cleaner the carpet, the longer it will last you. You don't clean your clothes with 'powder' or 'dry foam', so why clean your carpets that way? Carpets are made from some of the basic materials your clothes are.

TIPS FROM CRSI

Schematic of an AuquaClean

Carpet Care - Vacuuming on a regular basis is very important in keeping you carpets looking good and lasting longer. Not only is it good for your health, it prolongs the carpet life by removing fiber damaging materials embedded with the carpet. Pay extra attention to areas that are walked on the most, these areas are prone to excessive wear much faster.

  1. Vacuuming helps remove dirt and sand that will in time cut and destroy fibers and dull appearance.
  2. The vacuum cleaner should have a 'beater bar', an enclosed dirt collection with a filtration system and a high powered motor for better suction.
  3. Vacuums with a 'HEPA' filtration system are the best. Be sure to keep all filters and bags cleaned out for the best performance. Vacuums with an exposed 'bag' catching system of collecting the debris are the poorest vacuums when it comes to health problems. Dust often escapes the bag and goes directly into the air and your lungs. For Commercial cleaning personnel, there is a bill pending in the Legislation that pertains to the 'Clean Air Act'. If this bill passes, and we think it should, it would require all vacuums to meet or exceed the standards set forth by the bill. A 'HEPA' filter will be required on all vacuums.
  4. NOTE: All vacuums used by CRSI meet or exceed these new proposed regulations!

QUICK TIP - We often get asked how to keep that area in front of the recliner and couch clean. Even though you don't wear you shoes in the house, the oils from the bottom of your feet will cause the carpet to become soiled. If you want to ensure proper carpet appearance, were slippers that have a rubber soles. This will eliminate the natural body oils from collecting on the carpets as you enjoy your favorite show.

Carpet Cleaning - "Soiling" is a build-up of soil particles and oily materials that cling to the carpet fibers and dull their beauty. In time, foot traffic drives the soil particles deep into the carpet. When this condition cannot be corrected with vacuuming, it's time to have your carpet cleaned by a trained professional.

  1. How often you'll need professional cleaning depends on soil build-up, traffic, type and color of carpeting. A good rule of thumb would be to professionally clean your carpet every 18 months.
  2. A reputable professional cleaner knows the latest in carpet construction, chemicals, and safe, effective cleaning methods to help maintain carpet beauty.
  3. Most professionals use water extraction cleaning (also known as steam cleaning). Other common cleaning methods include absorbent pad or bonnet cleaning, rotary shampoo, and dry foam or powder.

Do-It-Yourself Cleaning - Professional cleaning is recommended for any carpet, including stain-resistant carpet. However, if you decide to do it yourself, carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions. Dry cleaning methods often clean surface fibers only, leaving deep down dirt. If other methods are used, avoid cationic or high pH (>10) chemicals which can impair stain resistance. Avoid excessive abrasive action to prevent damage to the carpet tufts.

Spot Cleaning- Basic cleaning steps for common food and beverage stains is as follows:

  1. Immediately scoop up as much of the spill as possible. Then blot, do not rub, with clean, white absorbent cloth or paper towels to remove excess moisture. Use a wet/dry vacuum if spill is large.
  2. Douse stain with warm, not hot, water and blot with clean, white cloth or paper towels. Press down firmly to remove as much moisture as possible. Repeat until no stain is evident on cloth or towels.
  3. If stain remains on carpet, make a solution of warm water and mild non-bleach liquid laundry, not dishwashing, detergent (1 teaspoon to 1 quart water). Apply enough solution to cover stain and let soak for about 5 minutes.
  4. Rinse with warm water and blot thoroughly to extract water. Repeat until all detergent is removed.
  5. Absorb remaining moisture with layers of white paper towels, weighted down overnight with non-staining glass or ceramic object.
  6. When completely dry, vacuum or brush the pile to restore texture.

Re-Occurring Stain: After drying, if the stain reappears, it may be because some stain remained deep in the pile and wicked up to the surface. If so, reapply warm water detergent solution, vacuum or brush when completely dry. This can happen even if the carpet is professionally cleaned.

Stain Facts: There is no 'miracle' cure for carpets when it comes to stains. Cheaper priced carpets will permanently stain much easier than the higher priced carpets do. The old saying, 'You get what you pay for', is true in this case. CRSI does NOT guarantee the removal of every stain, but we do have a great track record with most problem areas. The 'over the counter' stain removal products such as "Resolve" will work on certain stains. Some people swear by them, but more often than not, they will either remove the stain, or set it. When these products are applied to a stain without success, the chances of getting that stain out become very low. We recommend that you follow the 'Spot Cleaning' procedure above. If the stain does not come out, call a professional. Even if you follow these tips to the letter, there still is no guarantee that every stain will come out. The quality and composition of the carpet play a major role in stain removal.

Purchasing Carpet: "What kind of carpet do you recommend?" This a question we get asked often. We recommend that you purchase a 'Berber' carpet. You will want to pay attention to how close the loops are. Cheaper Berber carpet will have loops that are spread farther apart. Ask your carpet salesman for information on this, they will be glad to help. Also, large loop Berber is very difficult to clean. But the normal Berber cleans up great! Cut Berber is also a great cleaning and looking carpet, but once again, make sure the loops are woven tightly together. Also, most Berber carpet on the market today have a great warranty on traffic areas and stain removal. These areas are usually the first signs of wear you will notice. Make sure you check the warranties! Pay the extra money for the better carpet. You will be happy you did years later....
